A Few Words About Me
My name is Destiny Dyer. I was born and raised in the great state of Kentucky. I am a hard working single mother to one amazing little boy. My passions include coaching and developing others, writing, food, music and of course, wine. I lived for four years aboard Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in northern San Diego County, California. Yes, I was a military spouse. I spent my weekends with friends and family exploring all that SoCal has to offer. Most importantly, wine country. It was there that I discovered my love for wine. Shout out to Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula, California!
I've been back in the Bluegrass State for four years now. I love shopping locally and supporting local businesses. Which is why I wanted to start this blog. I am on a mission. I want to visit ALL the wineries that my Old Kentucky Home has to offer and get the word out there. There is very little marketing about our local wineries and even fewer wine events. Kentucky is known for Horse Racing and Bourbon. But we barrel some pretty delectable wine as well. And our wine makers don't get enough credit for the fabulous job they do. For instance, the weather in the Ohio Valley is unpredictable and often times, difficult to harvest what is needed for bottling.
Someone once told me that if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. So naturally, when Eddie O'Daniel (Owner of Springhill Winery) suggested I start a blog about Kentucky Wines, it made perfect sense. I've been blogging for years because it is therapeutic for me. But only about my life, health and single-mom dating adventures. I love wine. I love visiting new places and trying new things. And I'm also a woman. So I'm naturally opinionated. ;-) So why not give this a shot?
I frequent many local wineries on a regular basis. So much so that most of the owners know me by name. And I may or may not be friends with some on social media. I have wine club memberships at multiple wineries. For you newbies out there, yes it's a thing. And it's well worth it! But not all wineries participate or see the value in offering such programs. For any of you wine enthusiasts that would like to make the most out of your wineventures, take the time to download the DrinkKY app. You can use the map to discover local wineries and breweries. But you can also earn rewards for your check-ins. I am not at all affiliated with DrinkKY. I simply like getting free stuff. Who doesn't?! Get rewarded for the places you are already going/drinking! They also make it easy for you to navigate to the winery websites and even tell you the hours of operations. Especially for those of us that aren't very tech savvy.
My plan is to blog about my winery experiences. I hope to gather information about each winery and their rich history. And when I critique the wineries, I will do so not only based on the wine but also the ambiance and hospitality. I will give an overall rating as well as a rating for each individual category. For example, I'm giving XYZ Winery 5/5 corks for hospitality.

It seems I'm "Destined to wine about it".

A special thanks to Sarah Victoria Boulton for being the mastermind behind my logos!
